RONN TAKES OVER SOLO LEAD
Maize, Kansas
June 15, 2024
The overall solo lead in this 43rd edition of the Race Across America (RAAM) has changed. Lukas Kaufmann (Austria), the rookie who had held the front position since back in California on day one, has been passed by Jimmy Ronn (Sweden), another racer making his RAAM debut.
For much of the past few of days, Ronn had been within 20-30 miles of Kaufman, finally getting past him earlier today. Ronn’s lead is slight, however. He’s just 7 miles ahead of Kaufman. Meanwhile, Dominik Meirehofer (Austria), yet another RAAM first-timer, is about 60 miles behind Kafmann, a deficit that long-time fans know can change well within a day as riders take sleep breaks or encounter the inevitable issues.
What an interesting set of circumstances we have up front! Will this can-and-mouse game continue over the remaining half of RAAM? We hope so! This is the most exciting type of RAAM there is to watch.
